Ami nagyon tetszik / What I really like in Wellington (public transport)

Visszaolvastam néhány beírásomat és úgy éreztem, hogy ideje valami olyanról írnom, amiben Új-Zéland nagyon jó.

Női lábak… Még mindig tart a season of legs! A lányok továbbra is rövid szoknyákban közlekednek, holott én már elővettem a pulóvert. Nem értem, ők miért nem fáznak. Itt mindenki szerelmes? Az meg teljességgel érthetetlen, hogy a lányiskolákban miért kötelező egész éves viseletként a térd fölöttig érő szoknya. Megfázik az izület, aztán nem felejt.

Annak idején, amikor katona voltam 9 hónapig, még ott is volt évszaknak megfelelő ruházat, télen vastag, nyáron vékony darabokkal. Igaz a katonaság konkrét időponthoz kötötte a ruházat váltását, nem a józan ész diktált.

A női lábak mellett elsüthetném a dekoltázsokat is, de nem teszem…pedig… ;D

A városi közlekedésről írok inkább, azaz a wellingtoni városi tömegközlekedésről, aminek buszos szekcióját van módomban élvezni.

Miért jó a buszozás? Takarékos, nagyon sűrű, meglehetősen pontos a menetrendi időkhöz, kényelmes.

A takarékosság egy bankkártyához hasonló kártyával (snapper) oldható meg legjobban, erre lehet előre pénzt feltölteni. Jegyet is lehet venni („please take your ticket”) a sofőrnél, de az drágább!  Felszálláskor az utas a buszon elhúzza a leolvasó előtt a snappert, majd leszálláskor megint leolvastatja és így kalkulálódik ki az teljes ár. Ha leszállás előtt nem „zárod” az utazást , akkor a maximális szakaszhossz tarifáját vonják le büntetésképpen a következő felszállásnál. 10 dollár egyenleg alatt a leolvasó „please check your balance” szöveggel figyelmeztet. Ha valaki mínuszba szalad a snapperével, akkor még befejezheti az adott utat, de a következő utazást már nem engedi a rendszer, jegyet kell venni. A snapper feltöltő helyeket piros alapon fehér hal ábrával jelzik, rengeteg ilyen hely van.

A buszmegállóknak két típusa van „regular” és „by request”, azaz ahol mindig megáll a busz, illetve ahol csak akkor, ha van fel- és leszálló. A buszmegállók között kicsi a távolság, nem kell órákat gyalogolni, ha eltéveszted. A buszmegállókban sok helyen ledes menetrend van, ami folyamatosan frissül, mutatva a következő járat(ok) számát és érkezésének becsült idejét. Buszvonaltól függően, 5-10-15 percenként járnak a buszok, a járatok között vannak átfedések, pl Hataitaiba jó a 2, 5, 6, 14, 20-as (20-as ~ Mount Victoriára turista busz).

A buszsofőrök korrektek, segítőkészek, némelyik igazi versenyzői alkat, nagyon érzik a buszuk határait, időnként centizni kell, de nekik nem gond! Ha látják, hogy a buszra futsz, akkor nem hagynak ott, a mozgáskorlátozott utasnak egy rámpát hajtanak ki és felsegítik a buszra, türelemmel megvárják, míg mi, utasok, fel és leszállunk.

Múltkor egy vak bácsi állt a buszmegállóban (sötét szemüveg, fehér bot), megállt a sofőr (jó nagydarab, maori szabvány) és odament a bácsihoz megkérdezte, hogy erre a buszra vár-e, majd miután nemleges volt a válasz, szépen visszaült és vezetett tovább.

Rengeteg mindenről tudnék még írni, fogok is, pl a buszok típusairól, itteni utazási szokásokról, utazási mentalitásról, esetleg érdekesebb útvonalakról és a személyes tapasztalataimról. De most ennyi fért bele.

I have been reading back some of my previous notes and I felt it was time to introduce something what is strong point of New Zealand.

Femine legs… „Season of legs” still has been running! Girls, women have been wearing short skirts although I have already prepared my warm pullover. I can not get how Kiwis do not feel cold? Is everybody in love here except me???? It is totally mysterious for me why young girls must wear knee-long skirts at schools during the whole year independently from the actual season. They may get arthritis and articulations never forget.

When I had been a soldier for 9 months in the Hungarian Army, even in the Army there was 2 season standard weeds, one standard for winter with thick clothes and one for summer with thin clothes. Definitely Army totally did not bother with the real weather, it was not logical, the date of the weeds standard change linked to an exact day.

Beside femine legs I would continue with femine decollete…but I do not do…although…I would…err…not.

I am writing about public transport instead, specially about bus section of public transport in Wellington what I have used and enjoyed every day since I have been here.

What are the advantages of traveling by bus? Moneysaver, economical, buses run very often, drivers considerably pay attention to the timetable and buses are very comfortable.

To reach the best efficiency in the money saving we have to use a „bank card” like plastic card called „snapper” and charge it with money before the first time we start traveling. (Basically when you buy the snapper it has a small preloaded budget). When passengers get on the bus, snapper must be recognized by the card reader, before take off once more and travel fee calculates by these detections. If you miss the second detection and leave the bus without closing the process you will be charged with the full etap fee for that bus at next time as a penalty. When budget on the snapper is less than 10 NZD, card reader warns with „please check your balance”. If you run into dept during traveling (your balance bottoms to below zero NZD) you are allowed to finish it and take off the bus, but can not use snapper to pay other transport till rechargement, you must buy ticket from the driver by cash. There are several places in Wellington where you are able to recharge you snapper, everywhere you can see the white fish silouette with red background.

There are two types of bus stops, a „regular” and a „by request”. Regular means driver stops every time even there is nobody to get on / take off. By request bus station means buses stop on demand only. Bus stops are rather close to eachother, if you miss the right one you do not have to walk for hours. Lots of the bus stops have led-screen to show the up-to-date timetable, the estimated time of the arrivals and the exact code of the buses.

Depends on the routes, buses arrive every 5-10-15 minutes and there is overlap between routes, for example for Hataitai disctrict you can travel by 2, 5, 6, 14 buses and by 20 which take tourists to Mount Victoria.

Bus drivers are very fair, polite, helpful, some of them drive as a pot-hunter but they really know the corners of their buses. Sometimes they have to navigate in a very very small, close place but this not an issue for them! If they realize you are running for the bus, they wait for you, for handicap passengers they raise a ramp to get into the bus, they wait with tolerance till we –the passengers- get on and take off the bus.

Some weeks ago a blind old man was standing at the bus stop, driver (huge man, maori standard) stopped the bus, went to the man and asked him if that bus was what he was waiting for, but it was not, so driver came back and continued the driving.

I would be able to tell much more about this theme, I am about to continue it for example with these subjects: bus types, traditions and attitudes of traveling, potential special routes and my personal experiences. But now I say bye! :)
