(Azóta volt még erősebb) Földrengésre ébredtem / Waked up by an earthquake

Most már tudom, milyen érzés földrengésre ébredni.

English version:

Well, I have already known what was if an earthquake waked me up. This morning I lost my „earthquake-virginity” and to be honest it was an „interesting-jarring-it was enough” feeling, emotion. My bed was dancing and waving under me, my last similar experience was in the Hungarian Army when a Private (with one bone star) kicked a big to my plank-bed as a wake up signal.
I looked for the fresh news on the NZ Geonet website:
http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/felt and found this (you can see upper).

Earthquake this morning was stronger than the Friday one, epicentre was the same in both occasions. I found two notes about them: http://info.geonet.org.nz/display/home/Latest+News

Petáj set me at ease, earthquakes are typical, all in the day’s things here, nothing to do but to tolerate and to be used to them. As I did not enjoy it so deeply I would not start singing Britney Spears famous hit: „Let me baby one more time”

Update, earthquakes this afternoon

Something started happening inside the Earth (in the middle of the Middle Earth J), some minutes ago my bed began alive and was dancing with me while I was watching Energy 2000 Poland videos. We had a 6.9 (later corrected 6.5) earthquake, harder than the previous ones. I felt strong defencelessness, how frail the human is if the Earth feels like dancing...

Now I understood why houses were made from wood and not from brick.

Wellingtoni hírek: földrengés, a világ leggyorsabb utasszállító hajója itt / Wellington news: strong earthquake and the fastest passenger ship in the world refuels in the harbour

Wellington újból jelentkezik! Azaz Robi, Wellingtonból. :)

Igen, imádom a minőségi szerszámkészleteket!!!!

„A földrengések kipattanásának alapvető oka kőzettömbök felszín alatti elmozdulása, ami a lemeztektonika keretében magyarázható. Új-Zéland olyan ritka ország, ami két nagy kőzetlemez határán fekszik. Ugyanez a helyzet Izland esetében is, azonban a lényeges különbség az, hogy Új-Zéland két egymáshoz közeledő kőzetlemez (Ausztrál- és Pacifikus-kőzetlemezek) határán található, míg Izland egymástól távolodó kőzetlemezek határán csücsül.” (További érdekességek a http://tuzhanyo.blogspot.co.nz/2011/02/tragikus-christchurch-foldrengesek-okai.html websiteon találhatóak.)

English version:

Wellington in Air again, I mean Robert welcomes from Wellington. :)

Peter cascaded/declared a board game party day for today in our house and the guests started gathering in the living-room, approximately 10-15 players are expected. Petáj is keen of board games, as he says of the “second generation”, the paper based, dice-less ones. “Manage your property properly” or “Flower carnival”, etc are known board games in Hungary, well, they are from the first generation. Good strategy, sharp logic (and a piece of luck) are needed for the final victory, one game takes for 15-25 minutes or so. Players are mainly adults from Peter’s friendship.

Actually I am not a hard board player, so this party day is not the zenit of my week, but there were couple of things what made me happy in the recent. My previously ordered handy tools have been delivered, a good quality 27 piece socket set with rachet (size 10-32, T-axle), a metric and imperial hex key set (0.7-10mm, 0.028-3-8”), 24 piece metric and imperial wrench set (size 6-22). As gratis I got a plier.

Work office was the delivery address, colleagues watched my face while I was admiring my new handy-tools and held them in hand for the first time. They designed a new word to describe the potential feeling I felt: “tool-gasm”, tool and orgasm mix. Yes, yes, yes, I am a fan of handy-tools (with good quality), these products are my desires. Not for eyes only but also to work with them!

This week I was able to go to work by my motor bike as last Saturday I made it back to “road-ready”. The front is not perfect, it has not met the “Robi-quality meter” standard, needs some more correction and fine tune, but definitely the bike is ready to use.

Not too many interesting things happened this week, except two special ones: strong earthquake happened on Friday morning, followed by lots lighter ones here in Wellington http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10900195 and the world fastest passanger ship was refueled in the Wellington harbour. http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/wellington/8940013/Worlds-fastest-ship-arrives-in-Wellington

By the way, I was riding on my motorbike during the earthquake, so did not realize anything, my colleagues, who were in the office that time described it to me, later. One of the typical reasons of the earthquake is the tectonical crashes. “New Zealanders live on the edge. Depending on their location, it might be the edge of the Australian Plate or it might be the edge of the Pacific Plate. The active Pacific-Australian Plate boundary passes through New Zealand producing earthquakes, volcanoes, steep terrain and active deformation. In places the active boundary between the interacting plates is quite narrow, for example the Alpine Fault and Southern Alps in the central South Island. In other regions, such as most of the central and eastern North Island, it is a broad zone of deformation.” (cited from http://info.geonet.org.nz/display/geonet/About+GeoNet)

Friday morning (09:06 NZT) earthquake had 5.7 magnitude. There is a website which continuosly reports NZ earthquakes - vulcano activities -etc and provides up-to-date information: http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/felt .

The recorder ship was more exciting for me. During Friday lunchtime, Thiys, Jonathan and me went to watch the “Concorde of the Sea” in the harbour. I took photos as well. Some important details about the ship: constructed by an Australian ship builder company called Incat, ship is 450 tonnes, 99 meter long, by its four engines (two Boeing 747 jet engines and two water engines) can reach 67MPH speed (107.8km/h). Name of the ship is Francisco and takes passenger and cars as a ferry between Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo (Uruguay). http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2351454/Meet-Francisco-The-fastest-ferry-planet-jet-engines-propel-1000-passengers-150-cars-67-MPH.html

After the short excursion in the harbour in a sunny weather I had a delicious turkish kebap.
